How Watch Allocation Works: 71% of Rolex Buyers Had No Prior Purchase (535 Reports, 2026)
Figures are published buyer reports as of 24 September 2026. The 12-month window is purchase dates from September 2025. A percentage appears only when the pool is 40 or more.
Nobody publishes how allocation works. Dealers will not say, the brands deny there is a list, and what fills the gap is advice from people who got a watch. This page uses buyer reports instead. Every figure below says how many reports it rests on, and where the sample is too thin to mean anything, it says that instead of guessing.
Purchase history among buyers who got a watch
The most repeated piece of advice in every waitlist thread is to build spend history first. It does not show up in the reports the way people expect. Of Rolex buyers who got a watch in the last 12 months and stated their own purchase history, 379 of 535 had no prior purchase at that dealer.
That does not mean spend is irrelevant. It means it does not predict how fast you get the call on its own. Which reference you are asking for looks like the stronger factor. Two people at the same spend level wait two years and five months for different watches.
Form answers only. Prefer not to say and Unknown stay in the counts below and out of the 535.

Walk-in or same day
Not everyone waits. In the last 12 months, 181 of 788 Rolex buyers and 13 of 68 Vacheron Constantin buyers bought on the day they walked in. Of the Rolex walk-ins who stated a purchase history, 110 of 124 had none at that dealer.
Some of these were not walk-ins at all but calls from a dealer to someone who was never on a list. The submission form now separates the two, so future reports will tell them apart.

Declined, or could not register, all-time
A wait is not the only outcome. Some buyers are turned away at the door, and some are told the list is closed. Across every published report, all-time, those are small numbers: six declined or never offered, and two who could not register. Too few to make a rate from, and worth showing precisely because nobody else records them at all. These counts are not the last 12 months.
Rolex: 1 declined / never offered. 0 couldn't register / list closed.
Patek Philippe: 3 declined / never offered. 0 couldn't register / list closed. 0 of these 3 are in the last 12 months. All three are October or November 2023.
Audemars Piguet: 1 declined / never offered. 0 couldn't register / list closed.
F.P. Journe: 1 declined / never offered. 1 couldn't register / list closed.
Vacheron Constantin: 0 declined / never offered. 1 couldn't register / list closed.
Tudor: 0 declined / never offered. 0 couldn't register / list closed.
A. Lange & Sohne: 0 declined / never offered. 0 couldn't register / list closed.
Rexhep Rexhepi: 0 declined / never offered. 0 couldn't register / list closed.
Registering at more than one dealer
Reading the notes on published reports, 16 buyers mention being listed at more than one dealer at the same time: 14 Rolex, one Tudor, one Vacheron. That is a count from reading, not a rate, because there is no field for it yet.
It matters more than the number suggests. Someone who registers in four places and reports the one that worked looks like a two-month wait. The three attempts that went nowhere are invisible, here and everywhere else. Every wait figure on this site, and every wait figure anywhere, is conditional on the attempt that succeeded.
F.P. Journe: 0 of 11 published reports.
F.P. Journe, same figures
Journe is the brand people ask about most and the one we know least about. Seven completed reports in the last 12 months, 11 all-time. Of the seven, four buyers had no prior purchase and two had two or three. None walked in. One was declined, and one could not register.
That is not enough to publish a typical wait, and we will not until there are ten. If you have bought from a Journe boutique, three more reports gets that page a number.

Add what happened to you
These figures exist because buyers wrote down what happened to them. If you have registered, waited, walked in, been offered something else, or given up, the form takes two minutes and every report is readable on the site.
