a watch on the wrist beats a name on a list
I wrote that line for the About page, and it stuck. To me it sums up the whole authorized-dealer experience better than anything else.
Think about it. You walk into a dealer, tell them what you want, and they put your name on a list. Then what? You wait. Could be weeks, months, or years. You might get the call tomorrow, or you might never hear from them again.
And here's the funny part: we're talking about spending thousands of dollars of our own hard-earned money. Nobody is doing us a favor. We're buying a watch, not asking for a handout.
Some people get “lucky” and walk out with the watch they wanted on their first visit. Others spend years building relationships, buying jewelry, and checking in, hoping to get offered the watch they actually came in for.
And some people eventually say screw it and go grey. Nothing wrong with that either. If you got the watch you wanted at a price you're comfortable paying, good for you.
There's no medal for waiting the longest, no shame in buying grey, and no reason to feel like you have to prove yourself to a dealer.
That's why I built Unghosted. We collect what buyers reported, in their own words, so you can see what's actually happening out there. How long people waited, what they bought before getting offered a watch, and whether they ever got the call at all.
If you've bought a watch or you're still waiting, share your experience. It might help the next person figure out what to expect.
And remember:
